Tell us a little bit about your unique background. I earned a business degree in Economics from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, which then led to a successful career at Bell Canada. The job was rewarding financially, but I knew I wanted to do something more meaningful with my life. So I left Bell and in 1993 and became an elementary school teacher. That’s quite a shift! How did you find teaching? From the moment I started, I knew working with children and their families was what I was meant to do with my life. And that passion must have showed in my work because I was awarded the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award of Teaching Excellence in 1996. So working with families became an important part of your work? Oh yes. In fact, I soon realized that working to improve the lives of parents and children was what I wanted to do full time—be it through teaching, speaking, workshops, or coaching. What exactly are your coaching credentials? I first became Coach-Parenting Certified Coach, but wanted to expand my skill set even further. So I enrolled and have since graduated from the Professional Certified Coach Program (PCCP) through the International Coach Academy, and am now a Certified Professional Coach (CPC). I am also working on attaining my international certification thorough the International Coach Federation (ICF). I am also happy to say, I was appointed Director of Communications for the 2006-2007 International Coach Federation -- Greater Toronto Area Chapter (ICF-GTA). But my best credential has to be the feedback and testimonials I receive from satisfied coaching clients through my company, Parenting with Intention. Tell us more about Parenting with Intention. The main goal of PWI is to help regular people, just like you and me, achieve extraordinary things in their lives. Through courses, workshops, and personal coaching I help people get great results—whether it's creating positive, healthier relationships with their families, or achieving another goal that has till now eluded them. What makes Parenting With Intention unique? Several things. My tele-courses allow me to reach people all over the world in need of custom support and parenting information. And I’ve created both online and phone-based forums where parents facing similar challenges can talk to one another and share stories and ideas. This provides a vital sense of community for those who feel that they are alone with their struggles. I’ve also tried to make it all very affordable. I truly believe that expert coaching and support should not be limited to just those with a great deal of money. That’s fantastic! You seem very committed to “giving back.” I am. That’s why I also donate the first 10% of all profits made from my writing and speaking to charities supporting parents and children in need. What else keeps you busy besides Parenting With Intention? I’m regularly published in parenting magazines across North America—with regular columns in a few publications and on related web sites. Plus, I have traveled North America speaking on the topic of effective parenting. I keep very busy, but am committed to going where there is a need and opportunity to help support parents and families. I also am a father of two great kids, and try to spend lots of time building those relationships, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks Rob! |
